Updated August 20th, 2016. Dandelions are part of the genus Taraxacum which is a is a large group of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae.
Dandelions are native to Eurasia and North America
There are two species of dandelion, and both species are edible in their entirety.
Like other members of the Asteraceae family, they have very small flowers collected together into a composite flower head.
Each single flower in a head is called a floret and as a result produces seeds asexually by apomixis.
So can hamsters eat dandelions?
Hamsters can eat dandelions but are unfortunately not the best for them.
This is due to the risk that wild dandelions pose as they may have parasites on them.
